General surgery

The Czech Republic meets the high standards of health care in many medical disciplines, and general surgery, with all that it entails (surgeries of the distal oesophagus, stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, colorectal surgeries, surgeries of the thyroid gland, lungs, hernias, varices, laparoscopic ipom plastic surgeries, surgeries in mammology and many other kinds) is not an exception. In the Czech Republic, a physician cannot work in the discipline of general surgery, if they have not obtained a specialised qualification in the discipline. After six years of medical studies and a subsequent three years of practical preparation, they need five more years of further studies and practice to become qualified. The patients can be therefore reassured that they will be treated by specialists who have gained the highest possible education as well as experience.
